Biography of Edward N. Bomsey

Edward Bomsey, President of Edward N. Bomsey Autographs, Inc. (a Virginia corporation), is a well-known figure in the professional autograph world. A collector himself, as well as a dealer in autographs for some 35 years, Bomsey is recognized for his expertise in, amongst other areas, autographs of the Associate Justices of the United States Supreme Court and the Chief Justices of the United States.

Holding memberships in a number of organizations, he was the 32nd President of the Manuscript Society (2008-2010), and chaired the Society's 2003 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. He received the Society's President's Award in May 2003 and the Society's Award of Distinction in May 2004. He was formerly Chairman of the Society's Ethics Committee, having helped draft its Code of Ethics. At the Society's 2011 Annual Meeting, he was named a Fellow of the Manuscript Society, the Society's highest award.

Edward Bomsey is also a member (and Board member) of the Professional Autograph Dealers Association (PADA), and a Life Member of the Universal Autograph Collectors Club (UACC).

He has contributed over the years to such publications as the UACC's Pen & Quill, wrote the Supreme Court section for The Manuscript Society Checklist, wrote "Recent Autograph Dealer Catalogue Gems" for the Manuscript Society News, and was, for 10 years, "Auction Trends" editor for the Society's magazine "Manuscripts". Bomsey appeared as an expert handwriting authenticator for the Discovery Channel's "Unsolved History" program.

Bomsey received the 1988 UACC Distinguished Service Award for his service as a Director of that organization, for chairing the drafting of the organization's Constitution, by-laws and Code of Ethics, as well as his work in organizing autograph shows and fairs. He is UACC Registered Dealer #052.

He has significant experience in appraisal work, including the papers of Lawrence E. Spivak (founder-producer-moderator of NBC's "Meet The Press"); he has also done appraisal work for the Society of the Lees of Virginia, the Folger Library, members of the legislative and judicial branches of government, and for other organizations and private individuals.
