(1897–1989) USMA 1918. Member of war plans division of the general staff 1941-43, US Deputy Chief of Staff in SE Asia, in 1944 succeeded Joseph Stilwell as commander of US forces in China. Lieut. Genl 1945, Chief of Staff to Chiang kai-Shek 1944-46. Surveyed China and Korea for President Truman 1947, named commander of US 6th Army 1949, retired 1951. Wedemeyer became a business executive and was an active anti-Communist. Wrote "Wedemeyer Reports" (1958). 10 ½ x 7 ¼ TLS “Al” on "Headquarters Sixth Army/Office of the Commanding General/Presidio of San Francisco, California" letterhead, June 26 1951, to a Seattle man thanking him for his “…strenuous efforts to extend hospitality to the Wedemeyer family…” during a recent visit to Seattle.
