(1837-1912) American journalist, Civil War correspondent for “New York Tribune”, succeeded Greely as Editor 1872-1905. Leader of 1872 Liberal Republican movement, Minister to France 1889-92, 1892 GOP VP candidate with President Benjamin Harrison. Negotiated peace treaty with Spain 1898, Minister to Great Britain 1905-12. ALS on 8 x 5 “New York Tribune” letterhead, NYC, March 11 1879, to Wm. A. Seaver regarding providing bottles to be picked up and having them cleaned for re-use. With nice Sarony cabinet photograph for matting & framing! William A. Seaver (d. 1883) was editor of “Harper’s Drawer” at the time of his death.
