Description:
(1867-1948) Michigan-born businessman, served as chief procurement officer for the US war effort in WW I. Assist. Commerce Secretary in Harding Administration serving Herbert Hoover. When Hoover entered the White House, he appointed Lamont Commerce Secretary, serving March 5, 1929 to August 7, 1932, during the Great Depression. In 1916 Lamont constructed a retreat home in No. Wisconsin called “Summerwind”, known as one of the most haunted places in America, with Lamont himself reputedly firing a pistol at an apparition. SP, 10 x 8 Underwood & Underwood/Washington studio bust portrait signed “R. P. Lamont” at lower border, likely while Commerce Secretary.

Condition: Very good, slight bend & puckering at right, top left corner bend
