Tibbs, Casey

Signature of saddle bronc champion and actor, one of rodeo’s greatest stars ever

Price: $75.00

Description:
(1929-1990) Legendary flashy, prolific rodeo cowboy, born and buried in Fort Pierre, So. Dakota, held "World All-Around Rodeo Champion" title twice, in 1951 & 1955. He also won the world saddle bronc riding championship in 1949, 1951–54, and 1959, and world bareback bronc riding championship in 1951. Won his 1st title in 1949 at 18, making him the youngest ever to win the World Saddle Bronc Crown. He inspired audiences with his trademark "purple shirt" (which matched his "purple" Cadillac) and a riding style that depended on balance and rhythm instead of pure strength. He was featured on a 1951 cover of LIFE magazine. Retired from rodeo 1964, he became a stunt man, stunt coordinator, technical director, livestock consultant, wrangler, and starred in several TV Westerns and worked with many Hollywood Western movie greats in movies such as "Young Rounders", "Bronc Busters" and "Breakheart Pass". He wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the 1966 film “Born to Buck”. As well as being one of Rodeo's greatest competitors and most colorful personalities, Tibbs first thought up the idea of holding a World Series of Rodeo, which became “Rodeo’s Greatest Spectacle,” the National Finals Rodeo in 1959. He still holds the world record of 6 PRCA Saddle Bronc Championships, and is the only cowboy to date who has won 4 PRCA Saddle Bronc Championships in a row. The annual Casey Tibbs Ramona Roundup is held in Ramona, California (he moved there in 1976 to raise and breed horses). A 28’-tall bronze likeness of him is in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Yellow 5 ½ x 4 ½ autograph album page signed in person by Tibbs, adding his hometown Ft. Pierre, So. Dakota. 1 ¾ x ¾ b&w magazine portrait stapled at bottom well below. Quite frameable!
