(1903-1966) Rhode Island US District Attorney 1935-40, Governor (D) 1940-45, US Solicitor General 1945-46, chairman of the Democratic National Committee & US Senator 1947-49. President Truman appointed him Attorney General August 24, 1949. Truman asked for and received McGrath's resignation effective April 3 1952, after he refused to cooperate in a corruption investigation initiated by the Justice Department.
