(1866-1920) Polish-Jewish born soprano, debuted 1882 in Leipzig, sang Wagner in Europe. Sang Helmwige & Woglinde at Bebruary 1891 Met debut and sang role of Santuzza in 1891 US premiere of Cavalleria Rusticana in Philadelphia, and Suzel in 1892 US premiere of L’Amico Fritz. She also sang role of Nedda at 1893 US premiere of I Pagliacci. At Met 1896-1904. She had a repertory of 45+ roles. Founded a Catholic Oratorio Society to provide training for aspiring singers, supported by her benefactress, Catholic philanthropist Annie Leary. AQS on 9 Ľ x 7 ˝ autograph album page, in full: “Grand old poems of the/ancient time,/untied to measure and untuned to rhyme;/sweet aspirations such as high/should raise/the heart of beauty and the voice/of praise.
