Description:
(1884-1947) Italian-born dancer trained at La Scala, became lead dancer there, at the Royal Theatre in Dresden, San Carlo Opera House in Naples and the Royan theatre in Rome. First danced at the Metropolitan Opera in 1897, became Mets lead dancer 1908-35, partnered with Rosina Galli 1915-35. Noted for dancing in Le Coq Dor, Mignon, Tannhauser, Martha, Hansel and Gretel, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Don Pasquale, Fra Diavolo, La Sonnambula, Barber of Seville, etc. ISP, 5 x 3 Italian b&w postcard bust portrait by Mishkin of New York (not in costume), signed with sentiment, New York, April 1924.
