Description:
(1911-2000) Chinese-American artist, one of America's leading watercolor masters. As a painter on the forefront of the California Style School of painting, he was known for his urban and landscape paintings as well as his graphic design work in the Hollywood film industry. His works are in over 50 public and private collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Brooklyn Museum; deYoung Museum and The Art Institute, Chicago. An illustrator of children’s books, his artwork was in several films inc. Lost Horizons, Flower Drum Song, 55 Days at Peking and The World of Suzie Wong, and The Sand Pebbles. Over 300 of his film-related works are permanently housed at the Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study at the Margaret Herrick Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, California. 7 ¾ x 5 ¼ Christmas card depicting his watercolor "Wall Street", created for Forbes, signed with trademark "Kingman" signature at lower left, full English & Chinese signature on inside (message page of greeting card) adding year 1966. Very nice!
