(1884-1968) Socialist reformer, pacifist, Socialist Party candidate for president 1928, 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944, 1948; a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union and the League for Industrial Democracy. Thomas campaigned against racial segregation, environmental depletion, anti-labor laws and practices, and in favor of opening the US to Jewish victims of Nazi persecution in the 1930s. He also was an early proponent of birth control. Signed 3 x 5 card, undated but ca. mid-1940s.
