Price: $110.00

Description:
(1928-2005) Dallas Police officer who arrested Lee Harvey Oswald little more than an hour after the Nov. 22, 1963 assassination of President Kennedy. Patrolman McDonald arrived at Dealey Plaza minutes after Kennedy was shot. At approximately 1:45 pm, McDonald was one of some 15 Dallas police officers who converged on the Texas Theatre in search of a suspicious man who had entered without paying. That man was Lee Harvey Oswald, President Kennedys accused lone assassin. As he approached the suspect in the darkened theater, Oswald rose from his seat and struck him, pushed a pistol into McDonalds abdomen and pulled the trigger. The gun's hammer was blocked by the flesh of McDonald's palm, and Oswald was arrested. Oswald was shot to death 2 days later while in police custody by nightclub owner Jack Ruby. Dallas Police officer J. D. Tippit, whom Oswald is suspected of killing shortly after shooting the President, was McDonald's lockermate at Dallas police headquarters. He retired from the Dallas Police Dept. in 1980 after 25 years of service. The Texas Theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
