THEODORE F. RANDOLPH (1826-1883) New Jersey Governor 1869-72 (D), US Senator 1875-81. He engaged in the coal and iron business, moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi and engaged in business in 1840. He returned to New Jersey in 1852, became interested in mining and the transportation of ores and was president of the Morris and Essex Railroad. Elected to the state General Assembly in 1859 and served in the state Senate 1862-63. He was elected 22nd Governor of New Jersey and elected as a Democrat to the US Senate. In the Senate, he was chairman of the Committee on Military Affairs in the 46th Congress. He invented a stitching machine and a steam typewriter. JOHN R. McPHERSON (1833-97) US Senator 1877–95 (D). He moved to Jersey City in 1859 and was a dealer in livestock. He served on the Jersey City Board of Aldermen 1864-70, and served as president of the Board for 3 years. He was a state senator 1871-73 and a Democratic presidential elector in 1876. In the US Senate, he served as chairman of the Committee on Naval Affairs in the 46th-53rd Congresses. 4 ¾ x 7 autograph album page signed by New Jersey’s post-Reconstruction Democratic US Senators, both adding “New Jersey” under their signatures. Undated but ca. 1877-79.
