(1935-2009) Republican US politician, college and professional football player. HUD Secretary 1989-93 (G. H. W. Bush), NY US Rep 1971-89. 1988 GOP presidential hopeful, 1996 GOP VP candidate with Bob Dole. Pro quarterback for 13 years in the NFL & CFL, a star in the American Football League (AFL). Captain of the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills, AFL MVP 1965 after leading the Bills to a 2nd consecutive championship. Played in the AFL for all 10 years of its existence, appeared in AFL All-Star game 7 times, played in championship game 5 times, set many league career passing records. Co-founded AFL Players Association, served 5 terms as president. An economic conservative, he advocated low taxes and supply-side policies in his political career. He was a notable influence upon the Reagan agenda and architect of the 1981 Economic Recovery Tax Act, the Kemp–Roth tax cut. Posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 by President Obama. 4 ¾ x 3 card with gilt Congressional seal at top center, printed name and identification as US Rep at bottom, rounded corners, signed with black marker pen.
