(1887-1979) US Army Air Service pilot, only pilot to win Mackay Trophy 3 times. Set 1921 world altitude record of 40,800, flew 1922 35hour-18minute endurance flight (with Oakley Kelly), and on May 2-3 1923, flew 1st nonstop transcontinental flight in Fokker T-2 with Oakley Kelly, flying from New York to San Diego. Also did 1st night parachute jump 1924, 1st successful crop dusting demonstration flight, and flew the 1st aerial photo expedition across the US. Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum Milestones of Flight Commemorative Series No. 5 3 x 6 cacheted cover honoring 50th anniversary of 1st transcontinental flight, signed by Macready. Postmarked San Diego, May 3 1973.
