(1889-1981) Pioneer aviator, pilot of NC-4, under command of A. C. Read, one of 4 Curtiss Flying Boats to undertake 1st transatlantic flight, successfully flew from Newfoundland to Lisbon May 16-27, 1919. Flew 1922 NYC-Rio de Janeiro “Friendship Flight”, mapped parts of Amazon from the air 1924. National Exchange Club “Service to Aviation Tour” 3 ¾ x 6 ½ cacheted airmail envelope honoring Lt. Walter Hinton with stamped cachet of NC-4 and Club insignia, signed by Hinton adding “Pilot of NC-4”. Neatly pen addressed to a Club member in Toledo, Ohio. postmarked Terre Haute, Indiana, June 17 (1930).
