(1888-1969) USMA 1910, Major General during WW II, commanded the 69th nfantry Division, 1st unit to contact Soviet Army at the Elbe River in Germany. He did not see combat service in France in WW I, but served with Allied occupation forces in Germany. He was promoted to brigadier general April 1941, named assistant commander of the 7th Infantry Division. His next assignment was at Camp Wolters, Texas, as commander of the Infantry Replacement Training Center. He was promoted to major general April 17, 1942 and appointed commanding general of the 76th Infantry Division. In September 1944 he was given command of the 69th Infantry, sent to Europe in December 1944, entering combat in January 1945 when it relieved the 99th Division in Belgium. The Division attacked rapidly eastward, crossing the Rhine on March 27, 1945, and capturing Leipzig in mid-April. On April 25, 1945, elements of the division reached the Elbe and became the 1st American unit to contact the Russian Army at Torgau. After the end of the war the Division was on occupation duty in Germany. Major General Reinhardt returned to the US in August 1945 and commanded the Infantry Replacement Training Center at Camp Robinson, Arkansas until September 30, 1946, when he retired. He was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Soviet Order of Suvorov, 2nd Class.
