(b. 1928) Minnesota US Senator 1965-77, VP (Carter) 1977-1981. 1984 Democratic presidential candidate, Ambassador to Japan 1993-97. TLS "Fritz" on 8 x 6 1/4 personal US Senate letterhead, Washington, July 20 1976, to Barnee Breeskin, Washington. Less than a week after accepting the Democratic nomination for Vice President, Mondale thanks old friend Barnee "for your warm expression of congratulations and offer of assistance." Mondale is "extremely honored that Governor Carter has chosen me as his running mate" and appreciates friends such as Breeskin. The 1976 Democratic Convention met July 12-15, 1976 in New York City's Madison Square Garden. The convention nominated Jimmy Carter for president and Walter "Fritz" Mondale for vice president. The Democrats defeated the Ford-Dole GOP ticket on November 2. BARNEE BREESKIN (1910-1989) Led the orchestra at the Shoreham Hotel’s Blue Room 1930-56, and, in 1938, wrote and copyrighted "Hail to the Redskins," the Washington football team's anthem. A long-time Washington public relations executive, Breeskin led the Washington “tent” (chapter) of the Circus Saints & Sinners Club of America, Inc., a national charitable organization that raises money for local charities.
