Presbyterian Church Moderator 1943-44, leader in Christian approach to social problems, author. Father of Yale University's famed Chaplain, William Sloane Coffin. ALS, 2pps (1st & 3rd pages of folded sheet) on 8 ¼ x 5 ½ letterhead of President’s Room, Union Theological Seminary, New York City, Thursday (no date), to Mrs. Angell, personal, friendly content (handwriting a bit of a challenge to decipher). James R. Angell (1869-1949), Am. educator and psychologist, professor of psychology (1894-1919), dean (1911-19), and acting president of Univ. of Chicago (1918-19). He was President of the Carnegie Corporation 1920-21, President of Yale University 1921-37, and an author. He was married to Marion Isabel Watrous (1894–1931)and Katharine Cramer Woodman (1931–1949).
