(1875-1944) M. Herbert C. Hoover 1899, 1st Lady 1929-33 (1st presidentís wife born west of the Mississippi). During WW I, she assisted her husband in providing relief for Belgian refugees and was decorated in 1919 by King Albert I of Belgium. While Hoover served in the cabinet of Presidents Harding & Coolidge, she was National President of the Girl Scouts of America. She was the first First Lady to broadcast on a regular basis as a guest speaker on a number of occasions, often advocating volunteerism or discussing the work of the Girl Scouts. She played a critical role in designing and overseeing construction of the presidential retreat at Rapidan Camp in Virginia. She was well versed in geology, Chinese and Latin. 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 card with "The White House/Washington" printed in blue at top right, signed fully while First Lady.
