(1913-1994) Controversial politician, Cal. US Rep & Senator, Vice President 1953-61, lost 1960 presidential election to JFK, staged dramatic political comeback to win 1968 & 1972 presidential elections and serving as President 1969-74, resigning over Watergate scandal, 1st President to resign from office. 7 x 6 TLS "Dick Nixon" on letterhead of the US Vice President with gilt seal at top left, July 8 1960 (approx 2 weeks before the Chicago convention that would nominate him for the presidency)to Major Gen. Julius Klein of Chicago (led Illinois National Guard, a state GOP leader, public relations man). Nixon thanks Klein and his wife for their kindness in sending the Nixons a souvenir from their trip to Austria: "You may be sure the attractive miniature Viennese orchestra is a prized addition to our collection of symbols of our Party". Nixon looks forward to thanking him personally "in the not-too-distant future".
