(1876-1977) 1st woman elected a state governor (D-Wyoming, 1925-27), elected to fill her late husband's term. As governor, she backed progressive public education measures and reduced state debt. She supported Prohibition and opposed professional prizefighting, unpopular positions that, along with being a Democrat, contributed to her 1926 defeat. 1st woman to be Director of US Mint 1933-53, oversaw the Mint during Great Depression and throughout the critical WW II paper shortage. She also oversaw the 1937 construction of the US Bullion Depository in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Ross was sworn in as governor 2 weeks before Texas’ “Ma” Ferguson. Signed 2 x 4 ½ card, no place or date.
