(1867-1947) MP 1908-37, Financial Secretary to Treasury 1917-21, President of Board of Trade 1921-22, Chancellor of Exchequer 1922-23. Conservative PM & First Treasury Lord 1923-24, 1924-29, 1935-37. Proclaimed state of emergency during 1926 general strike, secured passage of 1927 Trade Disputes Act, secured peaceful abdication of King Edward VIII on Dec. 10, 1936. Lord President of the Council 1931-35. Created 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley 1937, author. Fairly remarkable 6 1/2 x 4 ANS while PM, np, September 3 1936, likely from an autograph album, in full: "On our eighth journey we have been driving in Wales for nearly a month, a most enjoyable time. We look forward to next year. [signed] [date]." It is hard to imagine the PM taking a month-long vacation driving in Wales!
