Description:
(1929-2016) Popular American professional golfer generally regarded as one of the greatest players in professional golf history. He has won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour dating back to 1955. He is one of golf's most popular stars and its most important trailblazer, the first superstar of the sport's television age dating from the 1950s. His humble background and plain-spoken popularity helped change the perception of golf as an elite, upper-class pastime to a more democratic sport accessible to middle and working classes. Palmer was part of "The Big Three" of golf during the 1960s, along with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, widely credited with popularizing and commercializing the sport around the world. Palmer won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and, in 1974, was one of the 13 original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He won 62 PGA Tours (5th all time), 2 European Tours, 2 PGA Australia Tours, and 10 Champions Tours. He won the Masters Tournament in 1958, 1960, 1962 & 1964; he won the US Open in 1960 and the Open Championship in 1961 & 1962. He won the PGA Championship in 1964, 1968 & 1970. He was PGA Player of the Year in 1960 & 1962 and leading money winner on the PGA Tour in 1958, 1960, 1962 & 1963. He won the Vardon Trophy in 1961, 1962, 1964 & 1967 and was Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year in 1960. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2009. Palmer has had a diverse golf-related business career, and one of his most recent products is a branded use of the beverage known as the "Arnold Palmer" which combines sweet iced tea with lemonade. 2 x 2 3/4 signature in black ballpoint ink on vertical lined notepaper, nicely matted and framed with approx. 8 x 10 b&w photo of Palmer watching his ball after having hit it out of the rough. Overall size is 15 x 14.
