Price: $250.00

Description:
(b. 1924) President 1989-1993. Father of President George W. Bush (2001-09). Connecticut-born Houston, Texas millionaire oilman, US Rep, United Nations Ambassador, GOP National Committee chairman, Ambassador to China, CIA Director, unsuccessful 1980 GOP presidential aspirant. VP 1981-89 (with Reagan). Bush was nominated as Reagan's running mate on July 17, 1980, after some last minuite drama as to whether or not Reagan and Gerald Ford could agree on Ford's accepting the nomination and what his role would be in a Reagan presidency. When that possibility fell apart, Reagan selected Bush, despite their differences exposed during the tough campaign. Very good content TLS “George” on his 10 1/2 x 7 1/4 personal Houston letterhead, to Barnee Breeskin, Washington DC. Bush says Breeskin's letter came while he was at the GOPO Convention in Detroit and "[t]hings worked out as your letter suggested." Bush is "pleased and honored" to be the Republican VP nominee and he and Governor Reagan "will both be campaigning hard, looking forward to victory on November 4th." He thanks Breeskin for writing and for his "steadfast support." BARNEE BREESKIN (1910-1989) Orchestra leader at Washington DC's Shoreham Hotel Blue Room 1930-56. In 1938, he wrote and obtained the copyright for the music for "Hail to the Redskins", the football team’s fight song. Breeskin was associated with the Redskins since the team moved from Boston in 1937. He led the Redskin Wigwam Band, which played in a teepee high above old Griffith Stadium and was the team's director of entertainment 1938-52. A long-time Washington PR executive, he strongly supported his friend Bush’s 1980 run for the presidency. He led the Washington “Tent” (chapter) of the Circus Saints & Sinners Club of America, Inc., a national organization that raises money for local charities, up to his death.
