Description:
(1908-1973) Texas US Senator & Senate Majority Leader, VP 1961-63, succeeded to presidency on assassination of JFK; US President 1961-69. Noted for Vietnam War and “Great Society” domestic programs. 15 x 18 1/2 color dye-transfer image of LBJ being sworn in as President by Judge Sarah Hughes on Air Force One on Nov. 22, 1963, after the assassination of President Kennedy. The painting by Walter Richards is copied from Cecil Stoughton's iconic b&w photograph. A piece of original matting is inscribed: "To Eugene N. Murphy-/with best wishes,/Lyndon B. Johnson" and is inset into new matting. Dye transfer is a continuous-tone color photographic printing process for making full-color prints from black-and white photographs. Handsomely matted and framed to 22 3/4 x 24 1/2. This is a rare signed image of that most historic event! According to Murphy's daughter, her father was a patriotic American whose services were valued by many administrations. He was an 18 year-old fighter pilot in WW 2 with the RCAF and then the USAAF, assigned as an aide to Eisenhower after the War, and was involved in aeronautics and aerospace. Recruited by the CIA, he traveled and worked all over the world, a CIA operative in SE Asia during the Vietnam War. He was the Chairman of Americans Abroad for Kennedy-Johnson and also actively supported Hubert Humphrey's bid for the presidency. He reported directly to Henry Kissinger during the Nixon years. IMAGE NOTE: there is some light reflection on the glass appearing on this image - it is not on actual item image.

Condition: Very good, a little dampstaining affects Jackie Kennedy's hand and part of her jacket.
Type:Framed Signed Print
