Description:
(1918-2000) US Army Air Corps bombardier aboard the B-29 Superfortress "Enola Gay" which dropped the atomic bomb, "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan in 1945. After 2 years of flight school, Ferebee was assigned as a bombardier in the European Theater, completing over 60 bombing missions. In the summer of 1944, he was recruited by Col. Paul Tibbets to be part of the 509th Composite Group, formed to drop the 1st atomic bombs. Like Tibbets, Ferebee never expressed regret for his role in the bombing, saying "it was a job that had to be done." After the war, he remained in the Air Force in the Strategic Air Command, serving during the Cold War and in Vietnam until Dec. 1970, retiring to Orlando, Florida as a colonel, Master Navigator (bombardier). Signed 2 x 3 1/2 business-size card with Air Corps emblem at top, his name and rank, Hiroshima, August 6, 1945 printed on card. Frameable!
