(b. 1932) American composer, conductor and pianist, composed some of the most popular recognizable film scores in film history, inc. the "Star Wars" series, "Jaws", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Superman: The Movie", "E. T., The Extra-Terrestrial", the "Indiana Jones" series, the 1st 2 "Home Alone" films, the 1st 2 "Jurassic Park" films, "Schindler's List", and the 1st 3 "Harry Potter" films. He has been associated with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, composing music for all but 3 of his feature films. Other notable works by Williams include theme music for the 1984 Summer Olympics, NBC Sunday Night Football, NBC News' "Mission Theme", the TV series' "Lost in Space" and "Land of the Giants", and incidental music for the 1st season of "Gilligan's Island." He also composed numerous classical concertos and other works for orchestral ensembles and solo instruments. He was principal conductor of The Boston Pops 1980-93, currently its laureate conductor. He has won 23 Grammys, 7 BAFTA Awards, 5 Oscars, and 4 Golden Globes. With 51 Academy Award nominations (inc. a 2017 nominzation for "The Last Jedi"), Williams is the 2nd most-nominated individual after Walt Disney. In 2005, the American Film Institute (AFI) chose Williams's score to "Star Wars" (1977) as the greatest American film score of all time, preserved by the Library of Congress into the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Williams composed the score for 8 of the top 20 highest-grossing films at the US box office (adjusted for inflation). He received 2004 Kennedy Center Honors and a AFI Life Achievement Award in 2016.
