(1866-1924) US farm leader, Secretary of Agriculture 1921-24 (Harding-Coolidge). Father of Henry Agard Wallace (FDR Secretary of Agriculture & VP; Truman Commerce Secretary &1948 Progressive presidential candidate). Editor of Wallaces' Farmer 1916-21. Son of "Uncle Henry" Wallace (1836- 1916, prominent farm journalist, founder & editor of Wallaces' Farmer magazine 1895-1916). Graduated from, and taught dairy science at, Iowa State College. He farmed near Orient, Iowa, where his son Henry A. Wallace was born. Handled much of the daily details at Wallaces' Farmer and became editor when his father died. Wallace helped establish 4-H clubs and extension programs in Iowa, and helped start the Iowa Farm Bureau. Appointed Secretary of Agriculture by President Warren G. Harding in 1921, promoted programs for American farmers struggling against over-production and collapse of farm prices following WW I. His book, “Our Debt and Duty to the Farmer”, was published posthumously. 2 x 4 ½ card dated February 14 1924, while Coolidge’s Secretary of Agriculture.
